Sims Aluminium
Sims Aluminium Australia
Sims Aluminium, a wholly owned subsidiary of Sims Group, is the major supplier of specification secondary aluminium alloy product to the Australian automotive industry. It sources the majority of its recyclable raw material from Sims Metal's extensive collection network throughout Australia. This valuable raw material is sorted and packaged for despatch to Sims Aluminium's Melbourne smelter, where it is melted, alloyed and cast into ingot for delivery to both domestic and overseas customers.
Sims Aluminium is also the only secondary aluminium producer in Australia with the capability to deliver molten aluminium to its customers, generating further energy savings and efficiencies for the Australian die-casting industry.
Another industry service provided by Sims Aluminium is the smelting of aluminium dross emanating from both the primary aluminium and die-casting industries, either on a toll or purchase basis. This product is cast into large ingots (RSI) for re-use by the primary smelters, or for export to South East Asian consumers.
Sims Aluminium's Geelong plant specialises in the treatment of salt slag waste from the secondary aluminium industry in Australia, recovering previously lost valuable resources in aluminium and salt.
Both plants are certified to Environmental Standard ISO 14001:2004. The Melbourne smelter is also certified to TS16949:2002, whilst the Geelong plant is certified to ISO 9001:2000.
